Depression and mania symptoms
Just as severity of the symptoms vary for every individual, it also varies in time. In addition, the variation also applies for the number of symptoms encountered in any individual.
Depression
- - Feelings of hopelessness, pessimism
- - Persistent sad, anxious, or "empty" mood
- - Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, helplessness
- - Loss of interest and pleasure in hobbies and activities that were once pleasant, even in sex
- - Low energy, fatigue, being "slowed down"
- - Difficulty concentrating, remembering, making decisions
- - Headaches, digestive disorders, chronic pain or other persistent physical symptoms that do not respond to treatment
- - Sleeping disorders like insomnia, early-morning awakening, or oversleeping
- - Loss of appetite and weight or overeating and weight gain
- - Thoughts of death or suicide; suicide attempts
- - Restlessness, irritability
Mania
- - Abnormal exuberance
- - Decreased need for sleep
- - Inappropriate social behavior
- - Grandiose notions
- - Increased talking
- - Unusual irritability
- - Racing thoughts
- - Markedly increased energy
- - Poor judgment
- - Increased sexual desire
