What exactly is psychotic depression?

There are many people that report cases of depression in hospital everyday. According to statistics out of the total number of people that are admitted to hospital around 25% of these patients are troubling from psychotic depression. This depression varies from common depression according to the symptoms of depression; these symptoms might be regular hallucination or even cases of delusion (meaning unseen fears).

The psychotic depression is one of the most severe kinds of depression that happens to any person. This form of depressive disease is quite difficult to treat at times. The person experiences lot of episodes of hallucinations and even delusions. The person may show extreme behavior towards the hallucination effects. This type of depression is mostly a serious kind of disease and can also push a person towards committing suicide. The person shows extreme cases of hallucination fears and even cases of psychotic fears. This type of disorder mainly occurs because of any chemical deficiency or even a chemical abuse inside the person’s body.

There are many people that even suffer from disorders like schizophrenia also face symptoms and even the hallucinating symptoms, but they are different from psychotic depression. The person suffering from psychotic depression is aware of the fact that these feelings are just hallucinations. The person is also very ashamed to tell others that he is suffering from depression and this might be an obstacle in diagnosing the depression. There are chances that people suffering from psychotic depression also suffer from bipolar depression and also recurring episodes of depression along with the feelings of committing suicide.

Symptoms of psychotic depressions are quite similar to normal depression except a few like:

3)Person may suffer from hypochondria

4)There are chances of insomnia

5)Physical immobility along with intellectual instability.

6)Psychosis of fear

Treatment of psychotic disorder:

The treatment of psychotic disorder needs a long stay at the hospital and constant checkup from the medical professionals and even a continuous dose of antidepressant medicines. ECT therapy or the Electroconvulsive therapy is also given so as to treaty the disorder.

Treatment in this type of disorder is very much possible, and person usually recovers within a span of time. But the treatment and proper diagnosis time to time is very important for the person.
